Every July the residents of New Orleans descend upon Julia Street to feast upon the visual feast of art galleries and soft openings. The only rule of this grand get together, you MUST wear something white. White Linen Night, sponsored by Whitney Bank, is a classy block party meant to showcase New Orleans’ talented artists whether they are photographers, painters, musicians, etc. Beer and wine stands are littered throughout the streets for a pricey pint, but a cost savvy option is to just bring your own spirits. The event is completely free and attendance is encouraged.New Orleans in July is very hot, and very humid. The white clothing will certainly help you keep cool. There are misters and fans located every few blocks to help patrons cool off while they zip in and out of the galleries. After the galleries have closed, the party keeps going at the Contemporary Arts Center. The after party there does require a ticket, however.

While out, be sure to visit some great restaurants in the Warehouse District. Spots like ANNUNCIATION are perfect for the linen clad partygoers, doors open at 5:30 P.M. and feature delicious Creole plates. Cochon is another great place that features savory pork dishes with a Cajun kick. Of course you can also try Emeril’s, for the classic cuisine that made chef Emeril Lagasse famous.
