Weekly Houston Show Listing 2.17.23

Happy happy Friday! Let's chat music events this weekend, but before we dive too far I want to take a moment to let you know that the calendar portion of the site is fleshed out, so if you are looking for weekday events or want this information laid out in a calendar format, I am soft launching this portion of my site just for you to use. The rest of the site is under construction, so chill out on commenting about that mess, but the calendar is ready for use. Check it out here: https://www.behindsecondlines.com/calendar

Let's talk sets here, shall we?

FRIDAY (tOnIGhT)

It's a great night to bop to some indie. Check out a show at one of the best spots in town to catch a show, The End. Evntyd, Artificial Fun, Tides, Pinkie Promise are on tonight, doors at 7:00. As always, all ages and $15 for a night of fun.

Where will I be? The Wheel Workers, Forever Miles, North by North, and Ezra Black at The Continental Club, Houston, TX of course. Forever Miles is having their last Houston set for a minute and will be playing portions from their new album (which I have gotten to preview) and it rips, so this show will be worth checking out. Set starts at 7, $12.

I love the ambiguity and vague nature of SoFar shows, so I can't really give too much detail besides the fact that one of my favorite indie fuckboy bands, Astro Inn and more are playing tonight at some undisclosed location in Montrose. Show at 7:30.

Speaking of music venues I adore, if you don't like Eighteen Ten Ojeman, I don't trust you. Go peep Arbor, Adult Superstition, and dres_ tonight, doors at 8 for $15. Pro-tip, don't play Ram Ranch on the jukebox unless you want to hear it twice. OR possibly the rest of the night.

What's better than a little Friday night metal? Damned to Earth, Stone Nomads & Sadie Mae will be tearing up Black Magic Social Club tonight, get there at 8. Keep it heavy.

Feeling like you want to thrash a bit? Destiny Bond, Juicebox, Anti-Trust, Opinions, and Gripe will be putting the wild in DIY tonight at the famous House of J tonight, doors at 8.

FREE? Oh, that's one of my favorite words. And when there is quality to go with it, you can't lose. Check out the best doo-wop band from the East side Shame On Me MTSP tonight at Shady Acres Saloon, music at 8.

SATURDAY (tomorrowwww just a day away?)

Wanting something a little loud? Maybe a cool EP release. Check out Departure, Iron Code, Life Cycles, No Quarter, and Mind Mine shredding their way through The End, doors at 6, $20.

For some dreamy, sweet acoustic sounds, check out Such Marvelous Monsters, Astralace, Jupiter Mountain, and Layton Carroll at Bohemeo's. Check it out at 6, with a $5 cover.

Otra? Is that what you said? Then head on over to The Heights Theater to catch Del Castillo and Espantaparajos for $35, and get there around 7 for some excellent sounds.

Oh, me? Little old me? Where will I be? Nowhere else but the Septik, Lunatics, The Halfpipes, and El show, of course. This lineup is 10/10 and I can not wait. Get to Eighteen Ten Ojeman at 7:30, for an insanely priced $5 show. It's all ages, if you ask, since I seem to be old compared to the rest of ya'll. But you should check it out, seriously.

Grungy venue and some post-emo indie more your feel? Then check out Super Happy Fun Land for a lineup featuring Between Trees, Breathwish, Party Ghost, and Boyd. Doors at 8, $8, all ages.

If you'd prefer something a little more mature, but still rowdy, check out Los Skarnales and Opie Hendrix bring the heat to The Continental Club, Houston, TX. Doors are at 8, be sure to bring your dancing shoes.

SUNDAY (surviving still I see)

Keep your life smooth, catch Actual Proof play at Axelrad around 3PM. Grab some pizza for your headache while you are there.

If and only if you catch a second wind, hit up Trip Six HTX to see Lipstick Stains, Gank, Sykotic Tendencies, and Reagan Era Rejects. Music is on at 8, $10.

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND. See a show. If you want to see more coming up this week, check out the calendar. Let me know if you'd like me to add any upcoming events to the site calendar or this post. OKAY BYE NOW.
